ROLE IMPACT 
The Continuing Certification Specialist is primarily responsible for managing multiple components of the ABPMR’s Continuing Certification (CC) program, including but not limited to Lifelong Learning and Improving Health and Health Care (IHHC). The Continuing Certification program provides a valuable framework and tools for maintaining medical knowledge and skills, as well as tracking continuous improvement over a physiatrist’s career.  

Leveraging previous project management and developed communication skills, this position will play a key role in overseeing the issuance of initial certification, continuing certification, and the reinstatement process. To do so, he/she/they will collaborate heavily with a wide variety of stakeholders both internal and external, such as subject matter experts, platform users, vendors, and related organizations. 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact to internal and external stakeholders, such as specialty societies and other related organizations, regarding Continuing Medical Education (CME) and IHHC. 
  • Serve as business lead for platforms supporting the CC program, partnering with the technical team on support and maintenance issues. 
  • Implement all new IHHC opportunities as approved by the Board of Directors 
  • Ensure IHHC projects submitted by diplomates are reviewed in a timely fashion and credit is issued upon approval. 
  • Provide direct support to the ABPMR Continuing Certification Committee; contribute to relevant committee materials for the ABPMR Board of Directors
  • Collaborate with the Communications Department on content of candidate communications; determine appropriate timing and send communications
  • Assist with escalations from Customer Service and provide support during peak workload periods
  • Oversee and track any former resident seeking initial certification, diplomates in the continuing certification process, and any former diplomate who has initiated the reinstatement process to ensure the appropriate requirements are completed 
QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE   
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree with / or equivalent working experience with a professional project management + communications background, usually 3 - 5+ years 
  • ​​​​​​​Previous experience in a credentialing organization collaborating with cross-functional teams including business stakeholders as well as Board of Directors, subject matter experts, communications, external partners, and diplomates
  • Critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities; proactive and self-sufficient in managing tasks and responsibilities 
  • Relentless attention to detail with exceptional organizational and communication skills; strong presence and public speaking ability 
  • Belief in a culture of collaboration, transparency, and trust across the team; flexible, embraces change and excels in a forward-looking environment  
  • Familiarity with Microsoft products and services with ability to learn new technologies as appropriate

This starts by ensuring high-quality residency training and culminates in a rigorous and reliable two-part examination to achieve board certification.
