DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The role of the Compliance Specialist involves the coordination of enforcement actions necessary to ensure adherence to The Solid Waste Management Act within various programs. Specifically, the Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist for the Southcentral Region oversees compliance and enforcement activities across a designated geographical area that encompasses fifteen counties, including Adams, Bedford, Berks, Blair, Cumberland, Dauphin, Fulton, Franklin, Huntingdon, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Mifflin, Perry, and York. This position is integral to the Waste Management Program, which encompasses responsibilities related to hazardous, residual, and municipal waste management.
The key responsibilities associated with this role include the development of regional compliance and enforcement programs. This entails creating enforcement procedures that align established policies with the unique circumstances of the region, such as staffing levels and workload considerations. Additionally, the Compliance Specialist is tasked with establishing protocols for the referral of cases identified as violations by regional staff, including those from the Monitoring and Compliance Section as well as the Facilities Section. It is also essential to periodically review these procedures in collaboration with the Section Chief to ensure their effectiveness and relevance.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days a week upon successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- This position may require travel as needed.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $58,035.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of professional experience as a Sanitarian, Air Quality Specialist, Solid Waste Specialist, or Water Quality Specialist (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which affords the applicant the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements: - This position requires possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
