Job Description

Our client, a boutique law firm, is seeking a dynamic and hands-on Human Resources professional to lead and manage the firm’s HR function. This is a unique opportunity for a Senior HR Generalist, HR Specialist, or HR Coordinator ready to step into a leadership role and take full ownership of day-to-day HR operations. The firm is also open to experienced HR Managers who are comfortable overseeing a small team. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with the Managing Partner.

Please note: prior law firm experience is required.

This role will be responsible for providing comprehensive HR support across all functional areas, including recruitment and staffing, employee relations, performance management, training, and compliance. The ideal candidate is highly organized, solutions-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, professional environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end recruitment and staffing for all non-exempt roles, including posting positions (Indeed, LinkedIn), coordinating temporary staff needs, and overseeing vendor relationships.
  • Conduct new hire orientations and manage all aspects of employee onboarding.
  • Coordinate annual Open Enrollment meetings and benefits communications.
  • Provide coaching and support to employees and management on employee relations matters.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures.
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyze trends to recommend improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and best practices.
  • Administer and manage leave of absence programs (FMLA, CFRA, ADA, etc.).
  • Oversee daily attendance, manage time-off approvals, and address staffing needs.
  • Plan and lead staff meetings and internal training sessions.
  • Maintain employee personnel files and manage firm-wide immigration procedures as needed.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of progressive HR experience, ideally in an HR Generalist or Manager capacity.
  • Law firm or professional services experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of employee relations, recruitment, and employment law compliance.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work effectively with all levels of the firm.
  • Technically proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and HR systems.
  • Proactive, solutions-driven mindset with a positive, professional demeanor.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
