Job Description

Esquire Bank is seeking an On-Site back-office Operations Fraud and Risk Monitoring Specialist in Jericho, Long Island (New York). The individual’s initial responsibility will be to provide daily assistance and diversified operational support within the department and throughout the other departments within the institution. The individual will be tasked with monitoring, detecting and addressing potential risks and fraudulent activities. The role requires a strong eye for detail and analytical prowess. A thorough understanding of financial systems and regulation is also required.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and analyze transactions for potentially fraudulent activity.
  • Review large checks, ACH Stops and Blocks and Caution reports.
  • Review of Debit Card NFAC alerts.
  • Report Fraud to the BSA department.
  • Process various types of customer fraud claims including but not limited to unauthorized ACH activity, fraudulent/alerted checks and forged enforcement claims.
  • Responding to inbound calls from customers and other financial institutions concerning unusual activity.
  • Deep dive into individual fraud events to perform root cause analyses and combine the insights with a data-driven approach to develop fraud defenses.
  • Generate periodic reports and monitor real-time queues to identify high risk transactions.
  • Ensure the escalation of fraud cases are properly handled and documented according to procedures.
  • Determine existing fraud trends by analyzing accounts and transaction patterns.
  • Interact with the Bank’s core processor and clients to validate information and to confirm or cancel authorizations.
  • Recommend fraud mitigation processes for emerging transaction patterns and trends.
  • Interact with other departments/lines of business on resolution of issues.
  • Review and critically analyze alerts and information from various systems pertaining to but not limited to: Bank Fraud, Check Fraud, Counterfeits, Alterations, Forged Endorsement, Forged Maker, Kitting, New Account Fraud, Identity Theft, Returned Deposited Items, ACH Fraud, Wire Fraud, ATM Fraud.
  • Perform investigative practices to include but not limited to complying with regulatory requirements, compile documentation and evidence for presentation to leadership.
  • Work with branch and operations personnel regarding fraud claims.
  • Proactively seek to improve efficiency, reduce and mitigate losses.
  • Research, evaluate and identify control deficiencies/violations that contribute to fraud, and make recommendations to enhance controls.
  • Perform other duties as requested and special projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all activities are performed in compliance with industry, Federal, State and Bank Secrecy Act regulatory requirements.

Background and Experience:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in banking operations.
  • Minimum of 3 years of fraud analysis and investigation experience in the financial industry.
  • A working knowledge of various FISERV products such as Signature, Payments Xchange, and Remote Deposit Capture, Risk Office.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members in a fast-paced environment and can effectively prioritize, supervise, and identify risk.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Federal/State/Local criminal statutes, bank regulatory, and compliance.
  • Ability to perform in a high-volume environment and meet deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and people skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Microsoft Office skills.
  • Flexible hours as required.

Location: Esquire Bank, Jericho, NY

Full time – M-F 8:30 am - 5:30 pm

Estimated Salary Range:

  • $55,000 - $75,000 / year
  • Compensation may vary based on education, skills, qualifications and/or expertise.
