Our client, a dynamic company in the Global Packaging and Logistics industry, is seeking a Packaging Design Engineer I to join their innovative team. This role offers the opportunity to work on creating custom packaging designs and specifications that meet performance requirements, sustainability goals, and cost-effectiveness. You’ll play a key role in designing 3D models, 2D drawings, and technical documentation while collaborating with cross-functional teams and external customers. This hybrid position in San Jose, California, provides an excellent chance to develop your engineering skills and contribute to cutting-edge packaging solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop custom packaging solutions, including detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks or NX.
  • Interpret technical documentation and create comprehensive 2D drawings as per standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external customers to review and confirm packaging solutions before releasing designs for manufacturing.
  • Create and update Bill of Materials (BOM), drawings, and technical documentation to support the manufacturing process.
  • Assist in packaging prototype creation, testing, and validation, including structural analysis and simulations.
  • Participate in team meetings and design reviews, providing technical recommendations throughout the design development stages.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation of design specifications, engineering analyses, and test results, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Continuously develop engineering skills and knowledge while supporting senior engineers in creating inspection and support documents.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Must-Have Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Packaging Engineering.
  • 2-3 years of experience in mechanical/structural design and development preferred.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, with SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T standards, such as ASME Y14.5.
  • Knowledge of packaging design, materials, testing standards (ISO, ASTM, ISTA), and transportation requirements.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with CNC programming and ArtiosCAD.
  • General knowledge of cleanroom-acceptable packaging materials.
  • Hands-on experience with measuring equipment, such as tape measures, calipers, and scales.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset with high attention to detail and continuous improvement focus.
