Job Description

Korn Ferry has partnered with RMC Health System in search of their next Risk Director . This role is based on-site in Anniston, AL.

Reporting to the President, the Risk Director is responsible for coordinating all legal matters arising from patient care and staff issues, as well as identifying and managing risks within the hospital. Risk identification involves recognizing potential problems that could result in losses, ranging from high to low severity. The key areas of risk within the hospital include operations, general liability, professional liability, human resources, new products and services, and construction.

The Risk Director will ensure comprehensive risk management strategies are in place to mitigate these risks and safeguard the hospital's operations and reputation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represents hospital in all legal proceedings.
  • Administers Risk Management Program.
  • Provide executive leadership with regular briefings on emerging risks, mitigation progress, and recommendations.
  • Administers hospital Safety Issues/Workers Compensation Prevention Programs.
  • Overseas administrative and clerical functions of department.
  • Develops and implements risk management policies and procedures.
  • Conducts regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential risks and areas for improvement.
  • Coordinates with insurance providers to manage claims and ensure adequate coverage.
  • Facilitates training programs for staff on risk management and safety protocols.
  • Prepares and presents reports on risk management activities and outcomes to hospital leadership.
  • Maintain Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework.
  • Align with organization’s strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Be able to conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Ensure a sustainable patient safety program and meet reported requirements.
  • Owns and operates incident reporting system.
  • Develops dashboards for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Improve awareness in patient and employee safety.

Professional Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (RN preferred). Master’s degree in Nursing preferred. Alabama or multi-state RN license preferred.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a healthcare setting related to risk management, quality improvement, or patient safety. 1 to 3 years in a healthcare leadership role.
  • Case Management or Utilization Review experience essential.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and medical science.
  • Ability to effectively review medical records and interpret processes of care.
  • CPHRM and/or CPHQ certification preferred.
